Gender-Sensitive Placemaking in UK - An Initial Response from Downing Street

Women and Planning: from Theory to Practice Conference convened by The Leeds Planning School in July 2024.

Late in July, a diverse group of Architects, Planners, Urbanists, Academics and Developers wrote to the Prime Minister, highlighting the critical need to adopt a gender-sensitive approach in the upcoming wave of housing developments and planning reforms across the United Kingdom.

You were one of them, and we are grateful for your engagement! We have now received an initial response, which you can see below. To gain momentum until we hear from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, we are looking to gather more signatories. Would you be willing to help by sharing this with friends and coworkers who may be interested in supporting gender-sensitive placemaking approach in UK? If this is so, do put them in touch with one of us – Dr Karen Horwood or Dr May East.
